Fennoskandian kilven mineraaliesiintymät

The public-domain Fennoscandian Ore Deposit Database and Metallic Mineral Deposit Map of the Fennoscandian Shield contain data on more than 1300 metal mines, unexploited deposits and significant occurrences within the Fennoscandia (the Precambrian shield and the Caledonides; Norway, Sweden, Finland and NW Russia). In the deposit database, information on the deposits includes the location, mining history, tonnage and commodity grades with a comment onto data quality, geological setting, age, ore mineralogy, style of mineralisation, genetic models, and the primary sources of data. Information on mineral resources is mostly based on geological estimates in situ, estimates which should not be confused with the present industrial resource and reserve standards. All information is collected from public sources of data including published literature, archive reports, press releases, company Internet pages, and interviews of exploration geologists. The structure of the database is described in detail in Eilu et al. (2008). The database and the two maps are constructed as a joint project between Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), Federal Agency of Use of Mineral Resources of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation (ROSNEDRA) -VSEGEI, SC Mineral (Russia), and Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU). The products are accessible by the exploration pages of the Geological Survey of Finland (http://en.gtk.fi/ExplorationFinland/fodd/) and is accessible via the Internet through the web pages of the participating organisations. The language of all the three publications is English.

Purpose: The database and the maps can be used in regional geological and metallogenic research, in regional- and local-scale minerals exploration planning, and in land use planning.
