Selection of Lake Pien-Saimaa automated station observations visible in Tarkka, Chlorophyll, turbidity, temperature

A measurement platform located in Lake Pien-Saimaa (N61.0661, E28.1364) provides automated in situ water quality observations. The measured parameters are turbidity, chlorophyll-a and water temperature. The observations are made from 1 m depth with the following instruments:

McVan NEP 950: Turbidity

Trios nanoFlu chl-a: Chlorophyll-a

Ponsel OPTOD: Water temperature

The measurement platform and its equipment is owned by the City of Lappeenranta. Syke owns the Trios NanoFlu-blue-phycocyanin and McVan NEP 950-turbidity sensors. EHP Environment Oy operates the data flow systems and provides the REST API interface that is used to access the data.

This metadata refers to the selection of data that is visualized in the new Tarkka service and not to the full dataset of observations made by the platform.

The values in this dataset have been compared against other in situ observations and laboratory samples collected during summer 2022. The results of this comparison are shown here.

The EU H2020 Copernicus Assisted Lake Water Quality Emergency Monitoring Service (WQeMS) -project has participated in the observations by providing funding for new instruments, additional in situ water quality observations (laboratory samples) and other quality control work.
